Superb and unusual slate top Anglo/Indian partners desk with four paneled doors with carved crests enclosing cupboards with shelves on one side and drawers on the other. 

Attributed to: “C. Lazarus & Co. / Calcutta”.

 

The carved crests are purely English and the fact that Charles Lazarus is from Wales and apprenticed with his older brother in Calcutta shows the design source of the crests (enclosed).

 

The slate is in excellent condition but has the softness of millions of tiny scratches and polished with many elbows.
