Rare and superb diminutive English demilune card table with tapered molded legs and beautifully shaped skirts. The edge of the top is the original neoclassical carving of a band of ribbon holding laurel berries. It’s quite unusual for the interior to be mahogany instead of baize fabric (and more desirable).
Card tables are almost always 36 inches wide, to be 32 1/2 inches is very rare and wonderful. Also most card tables have a single swing leg to support the top leaf while this table both rear legs swing, so when the table is open it is completely symmetrical (note 2nd photo)
This table is of the very best quality and form having excellent timber and construction. It is totally original surviving without the usual hinge damage!
Reference: See Norman Adams for similar quality.
Circa: 1785
