This Newport tea table is of the finest quality mahogany with a highly figured Honduras single board top on a very dense San Domingo base. Both tables listed in the reference have a center drop and brackets joining the legs to the straight skirt. The table pictured here has a center drop and brackets but the skirt between is a double cyma curve (Cupids bow). Most all the original glue blocks remain with some small angle irons added long ago to help stabilize.
Reference: In Albert Sack's, "The New Fine Points of Furniture" he refers to a similar table as "Superior" (Page 267), though Sack's has a drawer which makes the skirt heavier. In Sack's Vol. VI another table is pictured without a drawer, with a corresponding slimmer skirt (Page 1038).
