English creamware ewer, probably by James and Charles Whitehead, Hanely.
Of partly-fluted form above a matching domed foot, the deeply-shaped rim edged with scrolls and the spout molded with a leaf, the entwined reeded strap handle capped with a leaf and ending in floral and foliate terminals. Height 10 inches.
Literature: The shape corresponds to #490 in James & Charles Whitehead, "Designs of sundry articles of earthenware;" an identical ewer with basin is discussed and illustrated in Peter Walton, "Creamware and other English Pottery at Temple Newsam House Leeds," pp. 128-129, n. 492. The handle has characteristic Leeds terminals as illustrated in Donald Towner, "The Leeds Pottery," p. 148, n. 7, with an identical ewer and basin illustrated pl. 22a.
