Unusually large and superb Neoclassical carved giltwood girandole (convex) mirror with anthemion carved crest and robust acanthus carved frame. The circular inner frame carving is a laurel wreath enclosing an reeded ebonized bezel.
This mirror is easily one of the largest and boldest neo-classical statements we’ve seen.
In the early 19th century high end gilding was also used a play on shiny and mat areas with the intention of increasing the impact of the carving. Note the highlighted central stems of the leaves and anthemion.
