No. R16886
Superb matched pair of diminutive George III mahogany inlaid knife boxes with the most marvelous Paktong mounts - a stirrup lift on the lid, lifting handles on both sides, three ball & claw feet with scroll brackets and the lock plates a scroll centerpiece.
Paktong was invented by the Chinese and by the early 18th century it was occasionally imported in forms that were used in England.
These are the only pair of English knife boxes that I know that have Paktong mounts.
The mahogany is highly figured and they retain all the barber-pole edge inlay.
The interior is also inlaid with barber-pole framing the shaped holes for the utensils.
Best pair I’ve had.
