Fantastic Carved Wooden Faced Tower Clock

Fantastic carved wooden faced tower clock.

Beautifully weathered with gilded numbers, both Roman & Arabic.

The center is an Apollo (sun face with radiating rays) with gilded counter balanced hands.  

Between the rays are sections of old mirror.

It had a Howard works to power the hands that - though I got it running well - posed a real problem when installed - if anything had to be done, the face would need to be removed to access the works and the face weighs 200 pounds! - - - so I’ve installed a very good tower clock movement which will need no attendance at all.

While doing an in depth checking and oiling I discovered a quite hidden inscription on one of the gears, “” Set up  10   1901  P Emerson Roxbury  Mass”
