This bed is from Governor House in Calcutta, India which was the seat of the English government in all of India in the 19th century. This bed is a tour-de-force of Anglo/Indian furniture. The original cornice is carved with stylized Lotus flowers. Floral pierced brackets connect to the cornice to the vine wrapped posts that are topped with the bust of a woman resting on modified Ionic capitals.
The headboard is an arrangement of pierced floral panels and carved balusters surmounted with a wonderful symmetrical leaf and floral array flanked by English lions. Completely original in great condition!
This bed will take a king size mattress.
